Internships

 

Marketing and PR Internship: Fall 2019 or Spring 2020

Zig Zag Ultimate seeks an intern to assist in managing each team, implement a strategic plan, ensure organizational stability, and grow our community presence. The position is based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

About ZZU

Zig Zag Ultimate is an Ultimate Frisbee organization with a focus on youth Ultimate, but also adult. ZZU is the only Ultimate Frisbee organization in West Michigan that serves youth. We have over 200 youth in our club from ages 9-19 years old. We host professional Ultimate Frisbee games, college league, youth leagues, club teams, camps, and tournaments. ZZU has a unique opportunity and challenge promoting a sport that few in the area have seen, however, the sport is booming in other areas of the country. So much so that Ultimate Frisbee has gained full recognition with the Olympic committee and may be in the 2014 Olympics. For more information, visit www.ZigZagUltimate.com

Responsibilities

Implementing key strategy by:

  • Managing and supporting the community of volunteers who serve on committees, coordinate leagues, and

  • support general operations

  • Help in the coordination of all youth programs including, but not limited to, Middle School and High School team, Youth Tournaments, Youth Club Leagues, Youth Club Travel Teams, and Youth Camps

  • Creating a strategy to recruit and retain members

  • Strengthening and working with our Youth Ultimate community to continue to spread the sport of Ultimate

  • Starting and maintaining a system to measure growth in key areas such as membership and fundraising

  • Establishing sustainable best practices for the organization

  • Exploring grants and fundraising opportunities in order to ensure organizational sustainability and member satisfaction

  • Managing communications by:

  • Managing the website and digital communications

  • Marketing the ZZU brand (leagues, tournaments, and other events or services)

Qualifications

An ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency with common computer applications and ability to utilize new technology

  • Self-motivation and ability to handle multiple tasks, projects, and priorities independently

  • Must have reliable access to vehicle

  • Ultimate and/or sports management experience (preferred, but not required)

  • Must pass criminal background check and child abuse clearances

Club Management Internship: Fall 2019 or Spring 2020

Are you interested in a career in sports - club management or coaching? Are you looking for a hands-on dynamic internship, in a fast-paced environment; where you work side by side with industry leading professionals? Then you want to learn about our internship program.

Job Requirements

Our program requires interns to provide proof of enrollment. Internships will cover 3 months and will be approximately 15-20 hours per week, with a schedule to be arranged by the intern and the intern's mentor. Hours may vary based on events and club calendar.

  • Helping to run practices as an assistant coach and/or solo coaching

  • Creating overall club structure with the Middle School and High School leagues

  • Strengthening and working with our Youth Ultimate community to continue to spread the sport of Ultimate

  • Starting and maintaining a system to measure growth in key areas such as team chemistry and overall skill

  • Managing communications by:

  • Communicating upcoming practices/games/tournaments with the players

  • Keeping track of practice attendance

Qualifications

An ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency with common computer applications and ability to utilize new technology

  • Self-motivation and ability to handle multiple tasks, projects, and priorities independently

  • Must have reliable access to vehicle

  • Ultimate Frisbee and/or sports management experience
